2023 Ambition: Become the Best Version of Yourself

As we enter a new year, naturally, I’m reflecting on the last 12 months and setting new ambitions for the new year, 2023. I’ve done my version of a Personal Annual Review. I looked at myself as a father, husband, and solopreneur aiming to build a successful one-person company.

Two years ago, I set personal moonshots across different areas of my life: spiritual, familial, financial, body, educational and more. I’ve had highs and lows, but I’m still on the journey. Two years later, I’m still determined to be the best version of myself; that’s my highest ambition.

What is a Personal Moonshot?

A personal moonshot is a term used to describe a particularly ambitious or audacious goal or project a person sets for themselves. It is often used in personal development and can refer to many goals, such as improving physical health, building a successful career, or achieving a significant personal accomplishment. The term “moonshot” is gotten from the famous Apollo 11 mission, in which NASA sent astronauts to the moon for the first time, and is often used to describe an ambitious goal that requires significant effort and resources to achieve. By setting a personal moonshot, individuals are committing to pushing themselves beyond their current limits and striving for substantial personal growth and development.

Think 10x, Not 10%

Moonshot thinking is a mindset that encourages individuals to think big and aim for significant, transformative change rather than incremental improvements. This approach involves setting bold goals and envisioning what could be possible if all limitations were removed. One key aspect of moonshot thinking is “thinking 10x, not 10%.” This means focusing on achieving a tenfold increase in impact or results rather than just a 10% improvement.

Incorporating moonshot thinking into your approach to personal development can be a powerful way to push yourself beyond your current limits and achieve significant growth and progress. For example, rather than losing 10% of your body weight, you might set a goal to become the fittest you’ve ever been. Or rather than aiming for a 10% increase in income, you might desire to build a successful business that generates multiple streams of passive income.

Incorporating moonshot thinking into my development journey has helped me set ambitious goals and push myself to achieve things I never thought possible. It’s easy to become complacent and settle for minor improvements. Still, by adopting a moonshot mindset, I’ve gained significant progress and made a meaningful impact in my life and the lives of others.

I know firsthand the importance of setting goals and striving to be the best version of myself. And as we enter a new year, it’s natural to reflect on the past and set new ambitions for the future.

As you consider your goals for 2023, I want to encourage you to make “being the best version of yourself” your highest ambition.

Why is this so important? Because when we focus on becoming the best version of ourselves, we’re not just working towards external achievements like a promotion or a bigger house. We’re also investing in personal growth and development, which has far-reaching benefits for every aspect of our lives.

For example, focus on improving your physical health. In that case, you’ll not only feel better and have more energy, but you’ll also be setting a positive example for your family and colleagues. Or if you work on developing your communication skills, you’ll not only be more effective in your professional relationships, but you’ll also strengthen your connections with your loved ones.

And the benefits of becoming the best version of yourself extend beyond just the tangible improvements in your life. When we improve ourselves, we also gain confidence and self-esteem, which can help us tackle challenges and setbacks with a positive attitude. As you set your ambitions for 2023, I encourage you to prioritize becoming the best version of yourself. It’s a journey that will bring rewards in every aspect of your life and pay dividends for years to come.

Actions to take:

  1. Reflect on the areas of your life that you want to improve in 2023. This could be anything from physical health and wellness to professional skills and relationships.
  2. Set specific, achievable goals for each area of improvement. For example, if you want to improve your physical health, you might set a goal to exercise 3 times per week or to eat a healthy diet.
  3. Create a plan for achieving your goals. This might include making a schedule or finding resources or support to help you along the way.
  4. Celebrate your progress and accomplishments along the way. Recognizing and appreciating your progress toward becoming the best version of yourself is essential.
  5. Seek out opportunities for personal growth and development. This might involve taking a class or workshop, reading a book, or finding a mentor or coach.
  6. Don’t be too hard on yourself. Becoming the best version of yourself is a journey, and being kind and compassionate with yourself along the way is essential. Remember that setbacks and challenges are a natural part of the process, and it’s essential to learn from them and keep moving forward.
