The Future of Work

A 2021 Mckinsey report states that the Covid-19 pandemic accelerated existing trends in remote work, e-commerce, and automation. We saw many people around the world lose their jobs and be furloughed. But at the same time, many were also transitioning into remote work.

There were already versions of certain remote jobs available, like Virtual Assistants and vCFOs (Chief Financial Officers). The Virtual Assistant, for instance, provides administrative services like taking phone calls and calendar scheduling. The Virtual Chief Financial Officers (vCFOs) provided financial services to startups or small businesses that couldn’t afford to hire CFOs, helping them balance their books and more.

Largely, remote work and its adoption have grown. The future of work is remote or at least hybrid. More people will be able to work on anything from anywhere in the world. The world has become more comfortable working with people from around the world using shared tools and technologies.

This is where the Virtual Chief Creative Officer comes in.

What is a vCCO? What is a Virtual Chief Creative Officer?

Simply put, a Virtual Chief Creative Officer is someone that provides creative services to businesses to help them achieve their goals, from a remote location.

In 2020, I found this 4-year-old video of Ran Segall explaining how he’d created a job role for himself. He called it the vCCO, the virtual chief creative officer. I jumped when I saw it, exclaiming, “this is what I’ve been looking for!”. It was an answer to my prayers.

As the Founder & Chief Creative Officer of Fireworks, a creative technology company, I too was deeply affected by the pandemic and had to think hard about how to make money for myself and my business. I told myself I was going to bet on my strengths. And what’s my strength?

“I help solve business problems with creative solutions.”

And that’s exactly what Chief Creative Officers do. I love this definition of CCOs. A CCO “directs a company’s creative output, developing the artistic design strategy that defines the company’s brand. The person who holds this position typically exerts internal and external artistic control. Internally, he shapes the look and feel of his company’s distinctive style. Externally, he controls the artistic vision and cohesiveness that is sold to clients.”

So a Virtual Chief Creative Officer, a vCCO, does the above for brands and businesses but virtually. Pre-Covid19 pandemic, I had the privilege of working with dozens of brands to help them solve their business challenges with creative solutions but since I transitioned into becoming a vCCO I’ve worked with dozens more and even trained about 2000 people through my creative workshops and masterclasses.
